Finally, the manager whispered, \u201cSeventeen\u2026 sir.\u201d<\/p>\n

Seventeen.<\/p>\n

About him.<\/p>\n

The man who had said almost nothing.<\/p>\n

Every step made the room quieter.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know exactly who you are,\u201d he said. \u201cYou\u2019re someone who believes status gives permission.\u201d<\/p>\n

He stopped right in front of her.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut status is the easiest thing to lose when no one respects your character.\u201d<\/p>\n

She stood up abruptly. \u201cYou can\u2019t talk to me like this!\u201d<\/p>\n

For the first time, his voice sharpened\u2014but not loudly. Just enough to cut through her.<\/p>\n
