And someone wanted me to die inside it.<\/p>\n

Part 2<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

The darkness inside my mask wasn\u2019t just absence of light\u2014it felt engineered.<\/p>\n

I forced myself to stay still, conserving oxygen while my mind raced. BUD\/S training teaches you panic kills faster than water ever will. But this wasn\u2019t training anymore. I could feel that in my bones.<\/p>\n

\u201cJenkins!\u201d I shouted, my voice muffled through rising water.<\/p>\n

A cough answered me. He was still alive.<\/p>\n

Then his voice returned\u2014but lower now, urgent.<\/p>\n

Everything inside me went cold.<\/p>\n

I woke up coughing seawater onto cold metal flooring.<\/p>\n

The chamber was gone.<\/p>\n

Not broken\u2014gone.<\/p>\n

Like it had never existed in the configuration I remembered.<\/p>\n

Around me, alarms blared across Coronado Naval Base. Red strobes lit the corridors. People were running in full gear.<\/p>\n

This wasn\u2019t a training site anymore.<\/p>\n

It was a containment zone.<\/p>\n

\u201cMara!\u201d Jenkins grabbed me, pulling me up. \u201cWhat the hell did you do?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know,\u201d I gasped. \u201cWhere\u2019s Sullivan?\u201d<\/p>\n

Paulson looked shaken for the first time since I met him. \u201cThey took him.\u201d<\/p>\n

That hit harder than I expected.<\/p>\n

We moved through corridors that now looked militarized, sealed bulkheads closing behind us. It felt like the base was rearranging itself in real time.<\/p>\n
